I’ve been a nurse for 35 years, and I have to say, I’m looking forward to retirement. Not that I don’t love my career, but with a family of my own, and patients who need help all the time, I’m ready for some peace and quiet. Believe me, I have lots of plans for my upcoming summer vacation! A few years ago I found out that I had low bone density. My doctor recommended that I start exercising to strengthen my muscles, and taking calcium and vitamin D for my bones. Unfortunately, when I had my BMD retested, my doctor told me I have osteoporosis. I’ve always been in fairly good shape and try to keep up on my calcium supplements, like my doctors have always told me to do, so my diagnosis was unexpected. I suppose postmenopausal osteoporosis is more common than I thought.
