In California, your child will need an Entertainment Work Permit The permit does not cost anything. You must fill out this form and then have an official at your child’s school fill out a section of it as well. Your child’s health, school attendance, and school grades must all be deemed satisfactory in order to receive a work permit. Once the application is completely filled out, send it in to your local Department of Industrial Relations, Division of Labor Standards Enforcement office. As long as you request the permit when school is in session it is effective for six months, the only exception being if the permit is issued during the summer, in which case, it is good only until school is back in session, at which time you will have to reapply.
